Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located along the Tong Le Cham River in the upper course of the Song Sai Gon River, from Ta Thict Bridge to Tong Le Chan Farm (N= 11° 39’; E= 106°30’)
Synonym: Điệp Sông Sài Gòn: Bùi Phú Mỹ, Vũ Khúc 1980; Vũ Khúc 1986, 1984 0>! Vũ Khúc et al 1984); 1987, Bùi Phú Mỹ 1990 (in Vũ Khúc, Bùi Phú Mỹ et al. 1990). - Hệ tầng Sông Sài Gòn: Nguyễn Ngọc Hoa et al, 1996; Vũ Khúc 2000 (in Vũ Khúc et al. 2000); Ma Công Cọ et al, 2001.
Lithology and Thickness
Marl and calcareous Siltstone. Dark grey, ash-grey, thin- to medium-bedded marl and calcareous siltstone interbedded with some medium-grained calcareous sandstone in the lower part and claystone of the same color in the upper, 200 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Unconformably upon the Permian Ta Vat Fm (= Hon Quan Fm).
Upper contact
Not clear. Next younger formation is the Anisian-age Chau Thoi Fm.

Fossils
The marl bed just at the member’s base yields the ammonoids Otoceras (Metotoceras) phumyi, Ophiceras cf. commune, the bivalves Claraia stachei, c. ex gr. c. aurita, Eumorphotis inaequicostata, Pteria cf. ussurica and the gastropod Bellerophon sp.; this faunule is Early Induan in age. Also Pteria cf. ussurica and the gastropod Bellerophon sp.
